Le B&B que j'ai réservé pour une nuit est "5 Balconi", situé vers la Cathédrale et à deux pas du château Ursino. Je prends le bus depuis la gare routière et je suis là-bas très rapidement. L'accueil de Rob et Cristina est excellent. Je discute un bon moment avec Rob en anglais, (il est Anglais et vit depuis 5 ans en Sicile), mon italien n'est pas terrible, ça va pour les phrases basiques. Donc, ça m'arrange bien de pouvoir parler un peu anglais. Il m'explique beaucoup de choses, puis je pars à la découverte de la ville. Le marché aux poissons, la cathédrale,
la fontaine à l'Eléphant, la fontaine Amenano, 
dont l'eau qui coule forme un rideau, 
le jardin Bellini, hélas fermé pour travaux. Dommage, car il y a une belle vue sur l'Etna depuis le belvédère. Mais l'Etna est recouvert de nuages, je ne l'aurais donc pas vu. Ah oui, le compositeur Bellini (Norma) est né à Catane. Je me fais aborder par un jeune homme dont la principale occupation semble être de tenir compagnie aux touristes esseulées. Mais bon, je n'ai pas forcément envie de compagnie, fusse t'elle sympathique. Mais il semble vite consolé de mon refus, un peu plus loin, je le vois en train d'expliquer le plan de la ville à une dame seule... Catania n'est pas une ville magnifique, mais ce n'est pas une ville laide non plus, certes, elle est noire, à cause de la lave, mais elle est plutôt propre et beaucoup de bâtiments sont bien entretenus et rénovés. 
J'ai aussi la chance de pouvoir entrer dans le palazzo Biscari, 
pourtant fermé au public. C'est un palais baroque, 
avec des angelots aux fesses rebondies sur tous les plafonds. 
Il y a une fête d'anniversaire qui se prépare dans le palais et on m'a gentiment invitée à entrer pour visiter et faire des photos. Quand je le dis à Rob, il me répond que j'ai de la chance, lui-même n'a jamais pu entrer dans ce palais. Et je lui dis que j'ai aussi été invitée à la fête d'anniversaire, à partir de 22 h, mais là, c'est dans ma jolie chambre bleue 
que je préfère aller. La journée a été déjà bien remplie. J'ai mangé dans un restau (Camelot) situé en face du château Ursino, j'ai bien mangé, mais le service était assez chaotique. Des pizzas allaient et venaient, à la recherche de la personne ayant commandé... Les serveurs avaient l'air dépassés... Ils couraient bien dans tous les sens, mais avec peu d'efficacité.I am leaving Agrigento with the 8.30 bus that arrives in Catania 2 hours and 30 minutes later (155 km). I take a bus to reach the B&B that is situated not far from the cathedral and very close to the Ursino castle. The B&B is called “5 Balconi” and is run by Cristina and Bob. He comes from England and both are very friendly. He likes talking and I am happy to speak English, as my Italian is quite basic. Then, I discover the city that is not as ugly as I was told. Of course, it is black, due to the lava, but there are many nice buildings 
and it is quite clean. I especially like the cathedral area, with the Elephant fountain and the great Amenano fountain (the water looks like a veil). 
I want to visit the Bellini gardens, but they are closed to the public, for restoration works. Bellini, who composed the opera Norma, was born in Catania. From this garden, there is a nice view over the Etna, but I won’t see it, also because it is quite cloudy over the Etna. I actually have not seen it in full, since I have arrived in Catania.
I am also able to see the inside of the Biscari palace, closed to the public, but a few people are there, organizing a birthday party, and they invite me to have a look inside and take photos. Oh, great! The ceilings are painted with dozens of fat angels 
and the outside façades 
are also full of angels. 
I am even invited to the birthday party that takes place in the evening, but I think I’ll be too tired to go there… moreover, I don’t have party clothing anyway. I can’t go there with my walking shoes, can I?
I forgot to say a guy I saw in a public garden close to the Fish market wanted to take me around in the city, he was friendly, but I told him I preferred being on my own. He said we could go to a concert in the evening, as there was a free concert at the University Square. I said I would think about it. Anyway, I saw him short after with a lady who obviously needed help with finding her way, so it was better he helped her instead of me…. I guess he was on the search of lonely female tourists…
In the evening, I am having dinner at “Camelot”, situated right by Castello Ursino, so very close to the B&B. Food is good, but service is totally disorganized. The waiters come and go at a fast pace, but I also see the pizzas come and go… Wrong orders? It is quite funny to watch. Then, I go to bed, in my nice blue room
. The whole B&B is tastefully decorated anyway, with lots of cute details.
Heute fahre ich nach Catania. 8.30 Uhr fährt der Bus los. Die Landschaft auf dem Weg ist sehr schön. 
Trocken, aber mit vielen Bäumen, die typisch von Mittelmeer-Ländern sind: Orangen, Zitronenbäumen, Mandelbäumen, Olivenbäumen, usw..
Nach zweieinhalb Stunden bin ich am Busbahnhof in Catania. Von da fahre ich mit dem Bus zum B&B „5 Balconi“, es ist zentral gelegen, unweit vom Schloss Ursino und nur wenig Gehminuten vom Dom entfernt. Das B&B ist sehr schön und die Inhaber, Cristina und Rob, sind sehr nett. Rob ist Engländer, lebt aber seit 5 Jahren in Sizilien. Ich bin froh, mich endlich mehr unterhalten zu können. Auf Italienisch kann ich einiges sagen, aber es reicht leider nicht für eine lange Unterhaltung. Dann laufe ich in die Stadt, sehr mich einige Sehenswürdigkeiten an: Fischmarkt, Dom, Amenano-Brunnen, 
Elefant-Brunnen, Bellini-Garten, leider zum großen Teil geschlossen. Von dort sollte man eine schöne Sicht auf den Etna haben. Das es auf dem Etna bewölkt ist, hätte ich sowieso wenig gesehen. Der Komponist Bellini (Norma) ist in Catania geboren und vieles erinnert an ihm. Die Stadt finde ich eigentlich sehenswert. Man wird nicht eine Woche da bleiben, aber für ein paar Tage ist OK. Viele Gebäude sind sehr hübsch und die Stadt ist eher sauber. Schwarz, wegen der Lava vom Etna, 
aber trotzdem schön. Ich kann auch den Biscari-Palast kurz besichtigen, obwohl es nicht für Besucher geöffnet ist. Es soll heute abend eine Privatparty stattfinden, die Leute, die da sind, bitten mich zum Hereinschauen. Ich bin sogar zu der Party eingeladen. Na ja, ich habe nicht die richtigen Klamotten und wie soll ich mit Wanderschuhen tanzen? Ich wäre schon lächerlich. Der Palast ist schon sehenswert: 
drinnen an den Decken gibt es so viele bemalte Engeln, alle so pummelig. Ganz toll.
Am Abend esse ich beim Castello Ursino, da gibt es eine Reihe von Restaurants, unter denen, „Camelot“. Das Essen ist gut, aber die Bedienung ist schon chaotisch. Die Jungs haben anscheinend sehr wenig Erfahrung und sie kümmern sich nicht sehr um die Kunden. Pizza kommen und gehen, anscheinend sind die Bestellungen nicht alle richtig notierst worden... Es ist schon lustig zu beobachten. Dann gehe ich ins Bett, in mein hübsches blaues Zimmer.
