I wake up very early, as I want to take the 8 am bus to Trapani, so I leave the hotel at 7.15. Is that a holiday? Moreover, I did not sleep very well, as there was a restaurant right below the bedroom window... the bus is on time and 2 hours und 110 kms later, I am in Trapani, on the west coast. I have to ask directions a few times to find my B&B called Novecento, as the city is much bigger than expected and I only have the map for the historical centre and of course, the B&B is outside of it. Attilio, the owner, welcomes me with coffee and water, it is so hot, around 30°C. I get the Aglae bedroom. I first decide to take the cable car to Erice, the perched city, as it is fairly close from the B&B, but it won’t be open until 2 pm, so I decide to walk to the city first and it is quite a long stretch. I could take a bus, but I don’t see any and there is no information at the bus stops. The old city is beautiful, with many baroque buildings.
At around 2.30 pm, I take the bus number 21 that drives past the cable car station. As it is a bit windy, the cable car is like being in a rocking chair.... I don’t feel so good, as I am all alone in there and the other cars are empty too. Am I the only fool to take the cable car on a windy day? Once at the top, I can discover the beautiful city of Erice, from there the views over Trapani, valley, seashore and salt pans are fantastic. The city itself is well preserved, with many cobblestone streets.
It has quite a number of churches as well.
The castle is also very nice, like perched on the edge of the mountain.
After some hours of walking around, I decide to get down again and it is still windy.... it is shaking a bit, but not as bad as expected. Still, I am happy to be on earth again. I am having a huge ice cream (watermelon and lemon) and then, decide to get back to the B&B, that is actually close to the cable car station (15 mn).
