TAORMINA 23.09.07

Le petit-déjeuner est inclus avec la chambre, mais il s’agit juste d’un café et un croissant. Je crois que le mot petit-déjeuner est un peu usurpé… Mais en Italie ou Sicile, ce n’est pas vraiment un moment important et les gens mangent peu. En tout cas, pour moi, c’est peu et ce n’est pas avec un croissant que je vais avoir des forces pour faire ma balade du jour.

Je prends les escaliers qui montent au château, il y a une belle volée de marches, mais ce n’est pas trop difficile. Il y a un Roumain qui monte en même temps que moi, il m’explique qu’il est en Italie pour 3 jours (!), il a juste quelques heures à Taormina. Voyage express ! La vue sur Taormina est superbe depuis les escaliers. Arrivée presque en haut, il y a la petite église de Madonna della Rocca, construite dans la roche et joliment décorée (toujours des angelots). Au-dessus, il y a le château, mais il n’est pas accessible. Au loin, je vois le village de Castelmola, perché sur son promontoire. Il n’est pas si éloigné et je me dis que je peux y aller à pied. C’est juste la montée vers le village qui est un peu raide, mais il ne fait pas encore trop chaud, donc ça va. Il y a toujours des nuages, donc l’Etna est encore invisible. Dommage ! Car la vue doit être superbe depuis Castelmola. Je vois quand même les collines environnantes, qui forment un joli paysage.

Après être redescendue, je retourne en ville et je vais manger au Café Solaris, très sympa. Puis, je vais au théâtre grec, qui est un peu décevant. Il est partiellement recouvert de gradins, car ce soir, il y a le concert de Gigi d’Alessio. Puis je retourne au café Solaris pour une pizza.

Frühstuck ist im Preis inbegriffen, aber das Wort Frühstück bedeutet nur eine Tasse Kaffee und ein Croissant. Davon kriegt man keinen vollen Magen... Es ist in Sizilien nicht so wichtig, die meisten Leute essen nichts und trinken nur eine Tasse Kaffee.

Ich will hoch laufen, bis zum Kastell, ganz oben. Dafür gibt es eine schöne Treppe, von da hat man ein tolles Panorama über Stadt und Meer an den Füssen und hinten über die Berge. Aber den Ätna kann ich immer noch nicht sehen, weil es zu viele Wolken gibt. Nur die kleineren Berge oder Hügel davor sind sichtbar.

Vor dem Kastell gibt es die schöne Madonna della Rocca-Kirche, die direkt an den Felsen erbaut wurde. Wie immer viele Engeln an den Wänden... Den Kastell ist nicht geöffnet, also was kann ich machen? Zu früh um schon runter zu gehen. Ein bisschen weiter sehe ich Castelmola, ein Dorf, hoch oben auf einem Felsen.

Der Weg ist steil, aber es geht. Außerdem ist es nicht zu heiß, weil bedeckt.

Von hier oben hat man eine wunderschöne Aussicht auf Taormina und die Küste. Normalerweise sieht man den Ätna, aber heute bleibt er hinter den Kulissen...

Ich gehe dann wieder nach unten und gönne mir ein leckeres Essen im Café Solaris. Dann gehe ich zum griechischen Theater, aber ich bin nicht so beeindruckt. Da ein Konzert von Gigi d’Alessio heute abend statt findet, ist das Theater für das Konzert vorbereitet. Na ja, ich bin in Taormina, ich wollte das aber nicht verpassen. Dann habe ich Pizza im Café Solaris, ganz lecker.

As breakfast is included with my room, I am going down to the bar and I get a coffee. Nothing else seems to come, so I am asking the guy what I can have with that. Well, a croissant! I don’t think I will get such a full stomach this morning. I’ll be light for the walk I intend to make…. Grin….

I decide to walk up the stairs to the castle, quite a way up the mountain. The views over Taormina and the greek theatre are beautiful. Right below the castle, I can enter the nice Madonna della Rocca church, built directly into the mountain. The inside decoration is baroque, lots of cute angels everywhere. I continue to the castle, but it is closed. On another hill, further away, there is a village at the top of the hill, 530 meters high, called Castelmola. I try to imagine how far it is, it does not seem to be that far, it is just that the way seems to be very steep. In fact, it is not far, but it goes upright… On the way, I see a cute little house, like a fairytale house.

It starts getting hot, but I manage to reach the village without problem. As it is rather cloudy, it is not too bad. The only problem is that I still can’t see the Etna. One is supposed to have a fantastic view over the Etna from this village, well, I see the surrounding hills, but not the Etna itself. Clouds come and go, but there are always some remaining at the place I’d like to see. Otherwise, the village is quite nice.

Down again, I have delicious lunch at Café Solaris. Then I decide to visit the greek theatre (Teatro Greco), it costs 6 Euro to get in there. It is quite impressive, though good parts of it are covered with seats, for the tonight performance of the singer Gigi d’Alessio.

I have dinner (pizza this time) at Café Solaris again, as I liked it so much there.
